Arousing the Soul is Peter Tassi's compelling personal testimony of:

  • the love and great faith of the Poor.
"Arousing The Soul, 13 Days To Spiritual Awakening" is the story of a personal spiritual journey that transformed my heart and faith - and in fact, my view of the world. In a short period of time, while working at missions in Mexico, my soul became awakened from its 'Christian sleep'.

This sleep was a faith based on prior notions and ideals. Through my religious studies at University and elsewhere, I had been taught to accept an intellectual understanding of Jesus and a God, and to behave as if they resided 'outside' of me. Unbeknownst to myself however, it was this kind of superficial, detached faith that had left me empty, full of inner turmoil, and in a state of perpetual unrest and unhappiness.

I came home from Mexico a changed man, and I have continued to 'grow' in my spirituality ever since. More recently, I have found the teachings of the saints, and even mystics and eastern sages to be very helpful in articulating my re-birth of faith and fresh view of the world. This was in stark contrast to my prior academic view of spirituality.

The sisters of the Holy Trinity, as well as the Poor of Mexico and the Holy Spirit of God inside me, challenged me to abandon much of what I previously had believed to be true. It was necessary for me to release, or at least put in proper perspective, the intellectual teachings of academic giants and professors of my past. I needed to strip myself of all my presumptions, preconceptions and notions so that I could be filled with the Divine.

Although the path to a spiritual awareness varies from person to person, it is my hope that, as we 'walk together' on this retrospective of this journey in Mexico, each reader will vicariously experience the sufferings and joys, the trials and triumphs and spirituality of the people I met in Mexico. And no doubt, the incredible wisdom, insight, love and faith of the remarkable Sisters of the Holy Trinity will also be conveyed.
